Sturgill Turner Attorney J.E.B. Pinney Featured Speaker for Kentucky New Energy Summit

Energy law attorney J.E.B. Pinney returned as a featured speaker at the second annual Kentucky New Energy Summit, a day-long event focused on the future of energy policy, project development, and power generation in Kentucky. Pinney joined a panel called “Latest from the Siting Board: Merchant Generation and Transmission Across the Commonwealth,” where he shared practical insights drawn from decades of experience working with the Kentucky Public Service Commission and navigating the state’s regulatory landscape. He appeared alongside fellow panelists Angie Hatton, Chair of the PSC, as well as energy industry representatives Pat Tully of Savion and Tim Burgener of EDR.

“As demand for power grows with industrial expansion, new technologies, and population shifts, Kentucky must be ready to meet that demand with reliable, affordable energy from multiple sources,” said J.E.B. “That requires a clear understanding of where new generation and transmission opportunities exist and how to move projects through the state’s regulatory process in a way that is practical, efficient, and responsive to the needs of local communities. The Summit was a valuable forum to share what I’ve learned and to hear directly from developers, regulators, and industry stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges ahead for Kentucky and the broader region.”

Hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition (MAREC Action) on June 9, 2026, in Lexington, the Summit brought together energy developers, government leaders, legal and finance professionals, and power companies to discuss the broad range of energy resources needed to support Kentucky’s economic growth. In a state with deep roots in traditional energy production, the conversation underscored the value of an all-of-the-above approach that prioritizes reliability, affordability, and thoughtful integration of new generation resources where they make sense. Topics included battery storage systems, project siting and permitting, investment in new energy infrastructure, and the regulatory pathways for bringing generation online across the Commonwealth, including in Eastern Kentucky.

For energy developers looking to enter or expand in Kentucky, Sturgill Turner’s Energy Law team offers the kind of practical, on-the-ground experience that can make a real difference. Drawing on deep experience in regulation, litigation, municipal law, contracting, real estate, finance, employment, and local government matters, the firm has helped more than a dozen solar developers navigate Kentucky’s legal and regulatory landscape. Sturgill Turner attorneys were involved in six of the first seven Kentucky Siting Board applications filed, secured the first certificates granted, and continue to advise on major projects across the Commonwealth. That experience allows the team to help clients anticipate issues early, connect with the right experts, and move projects forward with a clear understanding of both state and local requirements.
