STBM is honored to announce that on August 31, 2006 the Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League (TBML), founded by STBM member, Kevin Weaver, held its opening ceremony at Shillito Park with approximately 400 people in attendance. TBML is a charitable organization that built and operates a special surface baseball field for children with special needs throughout Kentucky. The event began with presentations by Weaver, who serves as President of the organization, Governor Fletcher's chief of staff, Stan Cave, Mayor Teresa Isaac, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Vice-President, Pete Gritton, Rotary Club President, Dave Williams, BB&T Executive Vice-President, Jim Elliott and others.
The action then moved to the TBML field where Weaver performed the ribbon cutting and Pete Gritton threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The players' honorary buddies were then introduced, including, among others, Kristi Weaver, Governor Brereton Jones, University of Kentucky Women's Basketball coach, Mickie DeMoss, University of Kentucky baseball coach, John Cohen, the entire University of Kentucky baseball team, and Big L from the Lexington Legends. Honorary buddies included the three police officers that rescued the sole survivor from Flight 5191.
Although there were many terrific presentations, the absolute joy of the evening was when the players were introduced by University of Kentucky Hoops announcer, Neil Price, as they took the field to play baseball. STBM gives a special thanks to Kevin Weaver and Kevin Henry, legal counsel to TBML, for their hard work in making this an organization that Kentucky can be proud.
