BACKGROUND: Charley was born and raised in Harlan County, Kentucky. He graduated from Harlan Independent High School where he played football. He attended the University of Kentucky and played on the rugby team.
Charley accepted a management position with Liberty National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky. He married his high school girlfriend, Renae, and began working on his M.B.A. at the University of Louisville. He returned to Lexington in 1994 to attend the University of Kentucky College of Law. In 1995 he received his M.B.A. from the University of Louisville, and in 1997 earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky and began practicing law in Lexington.
Charley and Renae have two sons, two dogs and a cat. Charley is also a volunteer teacher for Junior Achievement of Lexington. He and Renae both enjoy playing co-ed volleyball.
