AWARDS: The Kentucky Bar Association named Kevin the recipient of its 2006 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award. This award is presented annually to an attorney under the age of 40 who demonstrates excellence in his legal practice, devotion to the Bar and service to the community. He was awarded the 2006 Fayette County Bar Association's Outstanding Citizen-Lawyer Award in recognition of distinguished civic activity and exemplary service to his clients and the Bar. Kevin was named a 2007 Kentucky Super Lawyer in the civil litigation defense category by Law and Politics magazine and was listed in the Super Lawyers, Corporate Counsel Edition in the civil litigation defense category in 2008. Kevin was also selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. LCA is a trial lawyer honorary limited to 3,500 lawyers nationwide, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
The Rotary Club of Lexington presented its Action Rotarian Award, which is given annually to the most active Rotarian who has made a major difference in the community on behalf of the Rotary Club, to Kevin in 2006. The Downtown Lexington Corporation awarded Kevin its 1999 Smiley Pete Award for his contribution in furthering the revitalization of downtown Lexington and for having the greatest impact on how people feel about downtown Lexington. Kevin was also named a finalist for the 2008 "Hero of the Year" Award presented by the Bluegrass Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
BACKGROUND: Kevin graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1994. Prior to law school, Kevin attended the University of Kentucky as one of the first recipients of the Otis A. Singletary Scholarship, the largest merit scholarship ever awarded by the University of Kentucky.
Kevin serves on numerous local and statewide civic and political boards and committees. He has served on the Downtown Lexington Corporation board of directors since 2000, as vice president since 2004, and is currenlty serving as president-elect. He also serves on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Lexington, Inc. In 2005, Kevin founded the Toyota Bluegrass Miracle League ("TBML"), a non-profit corporation formed to build and operate baseball facilities for children with special needs.
In 1999, Kevin was appointed by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government ("LFUCG") Council to an ad hoc committee formed to review and recommend changes to LFUCG's ethics ordinance. Mayor Jim Newberry and the LFUCG Council appointed Kevin to serve as chairman of Lexington's 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Fourth of July Festivals, attended by more than 150,000 people per year. Additionally, Mayor Newberry and the LFUCG Council appointed Kevin to terms on the LFUCG Picnic with the Pops Commission starting in 2007 and the LFUCG Special Events Commission starting in 2008. In 2009, the Mayor and Council appointed Kevin to the six member board of trustees for the Lexington Public Library system, with an annual operations budget in excess of $15,000,000. Kevin is also a 2006 graduate of Leadership Lexington and participated in the Lexington Medical Society's 2008 Mini-Internship program.
Kevin serves as the managing member of Sturgill, Turner, Barker & Moloney, PLLC. His legal practice covers the entire state of Kentucky. Kevin and his wife, Kristi, are the proud parents of daughters Libby and Maggie.
